Overview of the ERAS Application Process

There are a series of steps involved in getting a residency in the US and three different organizations involved in the process. Let's start by listing the typical steps an IMG applicant will move through during this complicated, often expensive, and always anxiety-raising process. The steps include:
Pick your desired specialty (internal medicine, surgery, radiology etc.).
Request and obtain a token from the ECFMG (www.ecfmg.org) that allows you to open your application workspace in the ERAS online residency application system.
Register as an Independent Applicant with the NRMP, the National Residency Matching Program (www.nrmp.org). The NRMP enrollment deadline is Dec. 1.
